What My Family Is Going To Do

My family is going to reduce our energy usage over the next to weeks in 5+ ways. We are going to do that by doing things like:
- Making sure that lights are off when we leave the room.
- Making our refrigerator 38˚ instead of 35˚.
- Dry bath towels and reuse them.
- Use shopping tote bags at ALL times at the grocery store.
- Collect rain water from gutters to water flowers/ gardens.
- Recycle as much as possible.
- Go to the grocery store once a week instead of multiple.
- Make sure to hit print preview.

What my Family Does

- Wash and rinse clothes in cold water whenever possible.
- Wash and dry full loads of laundry or set water level to match load size.
- Clean the dryer lint filter after every load.
- Use a clothes line to dry clothes whenever possible.
- Set your thermostat as low as comfortable in the winter and as high as comfortable in the summer.
- Put on a layer instead of turning up heat.
- Programmable thermostat.
- Central ac/ heating.
- Try to keep our ac at a reasonable temp. Don't overcool your room.
- Insulate our house and modernize windows.
- Keep shades down in the summer to keep the heat out and make sure to raise them in the winter for natural heat.
- Operate dishwasher only when full.
- If your dishwasher has energy saving 'no heat' drying feature use it.
- Whenever possible use your microwave or toaster oven instead of a convectional oven.
- Consider using a crock-pot for soups and stews.
- Use the smallest pan necessary to do the job. Smaller pans require less energy.
- Defrost frozen foods in the fridge to reduce energy.
- Turn TV off when it is not being watched.
- Turn off computer, iHome, IPods, etc. when not in use.
- Recycle bottles
